To secure its competence sourcing, AB Volvo is entering into a new partnership with selected universities in such countries as China, France and Sweden. The initiative in Sweden encompasses a scholarship program, among other aspects. Every year, AB Volvo will pay for tuition at Chalmers University of Technology for four new Master’s students from China and India.
Volvo Group – Report on the first quarter 2012
During the first quarter of 2012, the Volvo Group’s sales development continued to be strong. Net sales rose by 10% to SEK 78.8 billion and was the highest so far for a first quarter. The operating income of SEK 6.2 billion was on par with the year-earlier period, adjusted for the nonrecurring items that impacted the first quarter of both this year and last year.

The new framework impacts to some extent how revenues and expenses are reported between the different reportable segments. However, the Volvo Group’s consolidated net sales and operating income remains unchanged. Financial information for 2011 has been restated to facilitate comparison.

Promising future for Bio-DME as a vehicle fuel
The Bio-DME project aims to assess whether there is a market for Bio-DME (Di-Methyl-Ether) for commercial vehicles. Halfway through the two-year project the preliminary results show that Bio-DME already functions in daily commercial operations. If diesel fuel were to be replaced by Bio-DME, CO2 emissions would be able to be reduced by a massive 95 percent.
